Frequently asked questions
Answers about VPS, Dedicated, payment, security, and support — short and to the point.
Questions by category
VPS / VDS
What is the difference between VPS and VDS?
Essentially the same: a virtual server with dedicated resources. VDS is often used for the name, VPS is the general term. Both are in our VPS section.
Can I install my own OS?
Yes. Usually Linux templates (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, etc.) and custom image upload. Windows often needs a separate license.
What's included in a tariff?
CPU, RAM, disk (SSD/NVMe), traffic or unmetered, control panel if stated. See the tariff card for details.
Is there a control panel?
Depends on the tariff. Many VPS include one (cPanel, ISPmanager, etc.) or it can be added.
How fast is provisioning?
Often within minutes after payment. Exact ETA is on the provider's site.
Can I upgrade resources later?
Yes, with most providers. Check the panel or support for conditions.
Dedicated
What is a dedicated server?
A physical server entirely for your workload. All resources are yours, no neighbors. For heavy projects and full control.
How is Dedicated better than VPS?
Performance and isolation: no virtualization, full hardware access. Choice of disks, RAID, IP, etc.
Is administration available?
Depends on tariff. Options: unmanaged, semi-managed, or managed.
What locations are available?
Data centers in different countries and cities. See the tariff card for locations.
Can I order extra IPs?
Usually yes. Quantity and cost from the provider.
What's the minimum term?
Often from one month. Quarterly or annual often has a discount.
Security and DDoS
What is DDoS protection?
Filtering attack traffic before it reaches your server. Legitimate requests pass; mass attacks are dropped.
When do I need DDoS protection?
If your site or service was already attacked or you're at risk. Protection reduces downtime and data loss risk.
Is protection included in the tariff?
Depends. Some VPS/Dedicated include basic protection; for stronger protection see the DDoS section.
What are proxying and WAF?
Traffic goes through a protected network; WAF checks web requests and blocks malicious ones. See the Proxying page.
Do I need to change hosting for protection?
Not necessarily. With proxying you point DNS to the protected network; the server can stay where it is.
How do I know if I'm under attack?
Typical signs: site or server unreachable, panel hanging, provider notification. Panels often show traffic graphs and alerts.
Payment and tariffs
What payment methods?
Usually cards, sometimes PayPal, crypto, invoice for businesses. See the provider's site at checkout.
What currency are prices in?
Often rubles, dollars, or euros. Currency is shown next to the price on the tariff card.
Is there a trial?
Some providers offer a short trial or money-back. Check the tariff or provider description.
What is setup fee?
One-time setup or activation fee. Not on all tariffs; if present, it's shown next to the price.
Can I renew in advance?
Yes. In the provider's panel you can usually renew and pay for several periods ahead with a discount.
What if I miss renewal?
Many providers have a grace period. Details from their rules or support.
Account and access
Do I need to register on Pro-m?
No, to browse and compare. Registration and order are on the provider's site via the link from us.
How do I access the panel after order?
The provider sends an email with the panel link and login details. Check inbox and spam after payment.
Where do I get SSH details?
IP, login, and password (or key) are in the email after activation or in the server panel.
Can I change password or key?
Yes, usually in the provider's panel under Server or Security. Change password after first login.
Forgot panel password?
Use password recovery on the provider's site. If that fails, contact their support.
Support
How to contact support?
Via our Contacts page for help with choice. For a specific tariff (payment, access, setup) contact the provider (ticket, chat, email).
24/7 support?
Many providers offer 24/7. Check their site. We answer in business hours; for urgent order issues contact the provider.
Where to see order status?
In the provider's client area where you placed the order. Invoices, renewal, tickets are there too.
No email after payment
Check spam and email address. If still nothing, open a ticket with the provider or email them from their site.
Can I migrate from another host?
Yes. You do the migration or order it from the provider. We help with choosing a tariff; migration details are with the provider.
